Bhagavadgeeta and NLP – Similarities and connections – N. C. Srirangarajan

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) and Bhagavad Geeta may seem like two entirely different subjects, but upon closer examination, there are some striking similarities between the two. While NLP is focused on personal development and communication, the Bhagavad Geeta explores the nature of consciousness and the human condition. Despite their differences, both NLP and the Geeta share some common themes and ideas worth exploring.

One of the most significant similarities between NLP and the Geeta is the importance of language and communication. NLP uses language to influence thought patterns and behaviors, believing that language is a powerful tool that shapes our experiences and the world around us. Similarly, the Geeta stresses the importance of clear communication, both verbally and non-verbally, as a key to unlocking the mysteries of consciousness and achieving spiritual enlightenment.

The Geeta and NLP, both emphasizes the significance of perception. NLP holds that our perception of the world is shaped by our internal representation of it, meaning that our thoughts, beliefs, and values influence how we perceive and interact with the world. The Bhagavad Geeta also underlines the importance of perception in comprehending the nature of reality. The text describes how humans perceive the world through their senses, and then create mental representations based on their experiences and perspectives.

Modeling is an important aspect in NLP. By studying successful individuals and analyzing their thought patterns and behaviors, one can learn from them. This involves observing and replicating their successful patterns of behavior and thought. Similarly, the Bhagavad Geeta highlights the value of following the path of a wise and enlightened teacher. By modeling the behavior and thought patterns of such a teacher, one can learn how to achieve spiritual growth and enlightenment.

Both NLP and the Bhagavad Geeta also deal with the concept of transformation. In NLP, the aim is to […]

OMFS – A Bridge between Medicine and Dentistry – Dr. R. M. Lalitha

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) is a specialised branch in dentistry along with 9 other specialities at the post graduate level. A Bachelor’s degree in Dental Surgery (BDS) is a must to pursue post-graduation in any specialities in dentistry. Students in BDS are expected to learn all the basics of medicine and dentistry, whereas OMFS is focused specifically on Surgical procedures of Head & Neck and Mouth regions.

OMFS is unique on its own, as it deals with surgeries of the Head & Neck region, mainly the Face and the Jaw. It bridges the gap between Medicine and Dentistry. A doctor qualified in OMFS works alongside plastic surgeons and neurosurgeons, contributing the majority in reconstructive surgeries of the face. OMFS surgeons, on a day-to-day basis, deal with Trauma cases involving the Face; cancers affecting the oral region, facial region and jaws; surgeries related to cleft lip and palate; excision surgeries in case of lumps, swellings, and cysts in the oral cavity and related bones; minor surgeries like wisdom tooth removal, etc.

During the post graduation tenure, residents are posted in Hospitals and are very rigorously trained on a vast array of surgical procedures, and post-operation patient care. After post-graduation in OMFS, there opens a vast number of options of super specialities and fellowships in a more specific area of interest like Head & Neck Oncology, Orthognathic surgery, Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, Cleft lip & Palate, Reconstructive Surgery, etc; after which, surgeons can perform an enormous number of operations related to Facial bones and the soft tissues, or further pursue a career in cancer detection, treatment, and rehabilitation. OMFS surgeons can even pursue Fellowship in Trichology medicine and Hair transplant surgeries.

The main inspiration for my yearning interest in this career was my posting at Kidwai Institute of Oncology as a junior surgical resident in the 1980s, where I got to explore […]

The Street That Reinvents Itself – M. A. Sampath

Oh.. it’s almost New Year. Let’s get our calendars from there. Ganesha Chaturthi round the corner? Let’s shop there for the idols. Mud elephants for Aane pandigai, celebrated by that niche Mandayam Iyengar community – of course you can get them there.

Infrequent visitors to Malleswaram would direct one ‘there’ wrt its more famous neighbours the shopping street 8th cross or the bus route Sampige road (aka Venkataranga Iyengar road), while the residents and regulars know it by its own name.

With temples at one end, eateries at the other bisected by the (in) famous BJP office, Temple Street is a kaleidoscope of ever-changing shopping options. Month to month, season to season, occasion to occasion – not only the vendors on the footpath but even the well established shops have a whole new inventory of suitable items.

There are of course the standard, regular clothes, groceries, etc.. And they of course have double the competition to contend with. Along with other shops in the area, they also have to be ahead of the ones on the road that have a rebirth every season. The shops and vendors reinvent themselves for every occasion and they give a character to this road.

‘Jathre’s and festival celebrations add to the avatars of the Temple Street. Early in the calendar year are the various utsavas by the LakshmiNarasimha temple, followed by its famous Rathotsava, which is celebrated in and travels across not only Temple Road but also the neighbouring streets. This is followed by the Shivaratri celebrations, also causing traffic restrictions– such is the crowd at the Kaadu Malleshwara temple, day and night. A few months later, the 2-day Gangammana Jathre features processions and roadside stalls which attract crowds from across the city. Later concerts for Ganesha festival and the Kadalekaayi Parishe at the end of the year also block the roads with their […]
